Description

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis in the inflammation of the tendon sheath surrounding the abductor pollicus longus and extensor pollicus brevis, on the thumb. This is usually secondary to repetitive movements of the hands and thumbs, causing cumulative microtrauma, or an acute injury.

Treatment

Non-surgical Treatment
Conservative management of De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis includes:

  • Rest from repetitive motion activity
  • Thumb spica splint
  • Oral nonsteroidal antiinflammatories to decrease swelling
  • Physiotherapy
  • Injection therapy – corticosteroids, PRP
